He was her cataract,
Blinding as time passed,
Boisterous and breathtaking,
A natural wonder of the world.
He was the tear in her eye and
The smear of gold on her chin.
On a day when the ocean was
Ravenous and the sky was grey
I found her standing at the
Cliff edge, toes over rip tides,
And she told me with hands full
Of sin and soles full of sand:
“My dear, there is no treatment for
The blindness caused by a rainbow
And a waterfall.”

The author's comments:
I was inspired by the concept of a relationship that is all-consuming, where an individual finds their partner to be not only the most beautiful part of their life, but the only part of their life that matters - an unhealthy and engulfing relationship.
