“Moonlight drowns out all but the brightest stars.”

Yesterday, someone asked me what life would be like if I was the smartest person in the world.
Well, if I was that smart, I'll tell you what.
It'd be me and Alaska.
Just like Alaska, I'd be big as hell so no one can hurt me,
and far away so no one can ever find me.

Once upon a time, I dreamed of a big life in a small town.
Twice upon a time, I knew I was simply destined for a small life in a big city.

If I was the smartest person in the world, I'd finally understand that it doesn't matter
your size,
your mind,
your place of birth.
With happiness, our lives are as big and tall as we dream them to be.

Maybe the rules are only the ones we make ourselves out of the sticks and stones that leave bruises on our life as we walk through the rain.

Maybe if a rule is broken, it was never really a boundary at all, and the wall’s splinters can help build walls to keep the demons out, instead of the opportunities.

Maybe if we’re happy in a place like Alaska, big as hell and far away, perfection can be real.

And maybe, just maybe, we can be human for one more day.

But that’s just me, dreaming about being smart like that.
Until then, I’ll write my poems,
I’ll take my photographs,
I’ll sing my songs.

And I’ll keep being too blind to keep myself from simply waiting for my life to begin.

Maybe someday I won’t be.
