"Comparing yourself to others is an act of violence against your authentic self."

My cousin and his girlfriend are visiting on Wednesday
And the house has to look spotless.
I’m ready to scrub my blood out with the bottle of wine
I have waiting in a pink shoe box
under my bed
And I’m prepared to clean
out my head
With a bottle of extra strength Tylenol
But who in the world has time
For a suicidal child
When the coffee has to be boiled
And the curtains
Ought to be mended.

I wrote this poem last year, when my mind was in a far worse place than it is now. The gist of it is, sometimes the people you the love most let you down the hardest. It's inevitable, and of course one of the best ways to cope with it, is to write about it.
