I am in love with him,
his heart, his mind, his being,
and nothing seems to change that.

He picked me up off the ground,
lifting me high into the air
and told me with confidence
that we were going somewhere.
Hand-in-hand, we took our adventure
to beaches, towns, and the countryside
and spread the fire growing between us.

I am in love with him,
his heart, his mind, his being,
and nothing seems to change that.

Caught in the rain and snow,
the weather slowed us down
but we never paused,
instead finding shelter in each other
because together,
we were home,
and that was all we needed.

I am in love with him,
his heart, his mind, his being,
and nothing seems to change that.

The light started fading from his eyes--
but I thought I was just seeing things
and he continued on like normal,
yet the heat around us started to dissipate
and he didn't hold on to my hand
so tightly anymore,
as if he was anticipating that
he would soon let go.

I am in love with him,
his heart, his mind, his being,
and nothing seems to change that.

One day, all of a sudden,
he moved too quickly
and knocked something over--
a shatter of something precious
ricocheted off the walls--
a vase? a plate? a cup?
I came running to see if he was okay
but when I arrived,
I saw my heart in pieces on the ground
next to the broken promises
we made so early on.

I am in love with him,
his heart, his mind, his being,
and nothing seems to change that.

He left long ago--
just me in this vacant building now.
And when I finally think I'm used to
the emptiness that roams the halls,
a flash of his face strikes me down
and then I remember it all,
the ache from that first day
slapping me back into
a broken-hearted submission.

I am in love with him,
his heart, his mind, his being,
and nothing seems to change that.

I call him in hopes that
I'll suddenly discover that I am
the owner of my heart again,
but somehow his apathetic voice
sends me into the same spiral
of anger, grief, and hope--
the circle that always ends in pain
as I come across the fragments of my heart
still sprawled on the ground,
never picked up,
never put back together.

I am in love with him,
his heart, his mind, his being,
and nothing seems to change that.

The author's comments:
I love this boy who won't ever love me back. And no matter how poorly he treats me, no matter how much he leaves me hanging, confused, and lost, I still love him. Even when he broke my heart so many times now, I still love him. Maybe it's stupid, maybe it's ridiculous, but maybe something like that is real love.

Thanks, MO. c': Yeah, I hope so too. Thank you for your support on every one of my poems. I don't always respond, but I appreciate each comment. Also, I don't really get on chat anymore. Just so you know. I hope you have a lovely day!

hey Rose, I saw this and when I red it, I felt my heart break, too. I hope the next person who'll hold yours will be more carefull than him. but despite the heart ache, you've written this beautiful poem. the admiration and the lingering feelings are very present. Wording is simple, yet they maximise your expressions.  the rating doesn't do it any justice. It isn't 5 star material. it's more than that.
