"We know what we are, but not what we may be" - Shakespeare

I stumble and fall
over the words as I attempt to rearrange
and dismantle the letters
silence is an unfriendly companion
war torn flesh of fingertips
hit the keys of letters as
a bomb releases tension
as elements of surprise
through the ink there is
hidden secrecy
the blots of blood scream beneath
the cloth of bandages
I pile the sentences and fold
them neatly to store for safe keeping
many of which
I topple over with my clumsy
feet and heavy hearted hands
Tasteless eyes of galaxies see
only of the darkness flattering figures
bouncing off of another’s own
reflection in the skin piercing mirror
The hesitation of speech
desperate for air in her own
lungs to breathe a real breath of air
each word is released in chunks
with the chattering of teeth clenching
the words come out of my mouth
with relief as I speak to you these
moments of pain
lifting weights off of my
cracking and crumbling shoulder blades.
The touch is the loudest silence of which my
mind will not erase.
