She kept her sister's HEART
In the UPPER CASE
And her own heart
In the lower case
She shrouded herself in darkness
So her sister could SHINE
She hid below
For the happiness of seeing her sister ABOVE
She lived her life in the lower case
So her sister could live in the UPPER CASE
She could not bear to see her sister
Looked down upon
So she lifted her UP
Higher than herself
In the UPPER CASE
She wrote her sister's NAME
In the UPPERCASE
And her own name
In the lowercase
But she did write her name
She allowed herself
A case
There is no UPPER CASE
Without a lower case
There is no older sister
Without a younger sister
All the roads she built for her sister
Led back to her

I wrote this piece at a summer writing and history camp. During camp I learned that uppercase and lowercase letters received those titles because letters for use in a printing press were kept in the respective cases. Capital letters were kept above the small letters, in the upper case.
