We could be a mixture

A compound, unpure.

Bound by forces

They neglected to teach

Spark a reaction;

A chemical change.

Creating the energy,

Color red in my cheeks.

Physically broken down,

Dissolving,

Until I am him

And he is me.

I know what I want.

Elements can be one,

It just takes work

And circumstance.

It takes more muscles to frown,

So it's not just conservation

When he gives me that look

And begins to respire.

It won’t register today.

The shock will stall my brain.

The process takes time

A minute for a 60,000 mile trip

But when his words diffuse

From capillaries to cells and back

To travel to my heart

And turn it black.

Cleaved by hydrolysis,

Water straight from my tears.

Something is only alive

With the ability to react.

So where does that leave me?

No phylum fits quite right

And I know I was wrong.

There’s no science to love.
