a good poem
as I lay underneath this tree
I think of how it looks like a poem
a poem about fall
the beautiful red and gold leaves
dancing to the ground
but then I think that it wouldn’t make a good poem
because a good poem isn’t adjectives and metaphors
a good poem doesn’t have rhyme or reason to its madness
anyone can describe something
anyone can open a thesaurus
a good poem is so much more
a good poem shares something great
something powerful and awe-inspiring
or something funny or sad
a good poem is indescribable
because poetry is not merely words on paper
poetry is the text interpretation of liquid thought
poetry is words in their rawest of forms
before they’ve been refined enough to describe a leaf
a simple leaf as a red and gold dancer

I wrote this poem because I decided to enter a poetry contest. After I entered my poem (not this one), I looked at previous top ten winners. At least one (and sometimes more) of the top ten poems were about fall. Perfect, rhyming poems about fall that had no emotion whatsoever. So I hate wrote this.
