I can't sleep tonight
No matter how I try
I toss and turn and flip and shift
But nothing soothes my mind

The chill air nips at my toes, peaking from the edge of my blanket
The fan blows in my face
My eyes are too heavy to stay open, but too alive to close
My head throbs with fatigue

I stand up and look around my room
I really should be asleep
But if I can't... Maybe some forgotten chore will call to me
My idle mind wanders

He creeps in my room- the monster
Sitting on my bed
He sneers wickedly in my face
He knows I'm powerless against him

He sucks in my soul and spits out my ghost
I'm just so very tired
Insomnia: take whatever it is that you wish
But please give me back my sleep
