A red hat floated in the lake by my house,

With the wind as quiet as a midsummer mouse.

I glanced out my window, to find the culprit,

When I looked down, and then I saw it,

The little blue coat, frozen in the water,

Looked similar to the one that I had bought my daughter -

I rushed out the back door only to find,

That the life of my daughter was no longer mine,

I hugged the stiff body as I cried salty tears,

But when I looked closer at the face, it appears,

That the coat was just stuffed, all filled with straw,

My daughter stood behind me, as the doll began to thaw.

I scolded the girl for such a vile prank,

But when I thought about it, to be quite frank,

When I looked at her, all I felt was relief,

That the life of my daughter wasn't so blissfully brief.

This was inspired by the story of a childhood friend. I hope people can read this and take a moment to appreciate the life that they have.
