l walk into the hot
stuffy
room
her body fills a chair
the TV runs
she doesn’t watch
drool slides down her chin
eyes slowly blink
l swallow
one step
two steps
three steps
toward her
l place my hand on hers
she doesn’t notice
Please, l beg
urging her to look at me
she won’t
l wipe a tear from off my cheek
the rest l let roll down
she stares blankly ahead
Please, l beg again
Please grandma, know me
Know that l’m your grand daughter
Know who l am
