Happiness.
A word that sounds so simple,
but is difficult to understand
Some believe that to be happy,
one must be wealthy, and own clothes from a well-known brand
They try night and day,
to attain these luxurious items,
but they don't realize they've been led astray,
that the answer lies right in front of them.
For happiness is those simple moments of laughter,
spent with the people we cherish,
playing a game of tag, a friendly conversation, an out-of-the-blue kiss from a lover.
No matter the wealth, race, gender, or cultural background,
everyone can attain happiness,
as it costs no money, not a penny or a pound.
Unfortunately, with the constant arguments, wars, and disputes,
that occurs across the globe every day,
many have lost their happiness, drained down a chute
due to abuse, neglect, or a death in the family.
But if we open our hearts and do a kind deed for the unhappy,
if we comfort someone in tears or help the injured get to safety,
if we spread happiness from person to person to free
them of their suffering and misery,
more of the world will be happy, and better of a place
Because happiness,
is a luxury,
all in itself.

The author's comments:

Sometimes, I notice that people try too hard to "gain" happiness. Some of them think they need to be popular, rich, and pretty to be happy. The truth is, happiness cannot be bought or gained. Happiness occurs naturally, regardless of a person's social status. Happiness is free, and those simple, happy moments should be cherished in life.
