He’s a 6- foot something teddy bear
But not the kind from the convenience store
He’s the kind that sits on the floor next to you
Ready to watch a show
He’s ready to defend at any time
Not letting his guard down
To tickle monsters and wet willies

He’s a slick leather jacket and jeans
Carefully cruising the street corners
On a red rocket with flames
Driving you through the countryside
Because he knows you like the silence

He’s a bag of popping corn
Jumping at the dinner table
When you ask about religion or current politics
He’s your teacher
Your leader
Always first to inform

He’s a little misunderstood at times
And usually ‘doesn’t understand’
He’s a sincere “you can tell me anything”
And he patiently waits to be consulted

Even though he gives his wallet to a stranger
Paying a ‘licensed professional’
So that you have someone to talk to
You have yet to realize that
A dad is the best therapist
