I knew.

I always noticed

How you never put

Your Velcro paw

In mine

But it was okay,

Really, it's fine.

I would just carry you,

Sally, my Frankenbride.

I knew it was terrible

To stay that indecisive,

I am not a good one to decide.

I knew.

Your mouth would come unbuttoned

And you would stand

A little straighter

When he was dunking hoops

And my heart would turn cold

And I would pivot,

With See you later

So I could melt

My ice cube innards

And let the saltwater

Pool in my boots.

I was a lovely book-stop

I was a graceful paperweight

I was a placeholder.

I knew.

That vacation we didn't talk

But they did

Where roly-poly furbies

Just made that night better

Not the next

Because I just saw them as

Demolition Derbies.

And on that keel

I sang too much

And you didn't sing at all

So he whisked you back,

Like half made meringue,

Covering you

In a scarlet shall

You relished

Too much, everyone knew.

I knew.

So please,

Princess,

Don't tell me how to act.

Don't tell me how to feel.

It is-

Not-

Something I could change.

I am not sane

I am sad,

I am sorry,

I regret-

I am

Deranged.

I am the dog-eared page.

I know.
