"In the end we're all just stories, so make it a good one"

I want to be illustrious,
Admiration at my door,
But it does not come easily,
That is for sure.

Hard work and dedication,
I have been told,
Will make it all worth it
When you are making tenfold.

But it isn’t all monetary,
At least I would hope it is not,
Because success shouldn’t be measured in dollars,
But whether you can have happiness or not.

I believe success is about joy,
And happiness is the key for success,
So maybe happiness must come first,
And success will follow.

I was inspired by numerous people talking about their aspirations after college, and everyone wants money.  I believe that shouldn't be the valued product of succes, and I wanted to express that in my poem.
