Candy Corn
The orange and yellow
combine to a sugary explosion
reminds me of the time I ate
the entire bag of candy corn
and got sick.
The mountain of candy
an everlasting world of happiness,
I devoured it like a colony of ants
swarming over a candy corn,
A giant feast that could last forever
demands to be consumed.
Devouring every last crumb of candy
as if life depended on it.
Swarming the innocent kernel,
and covering it,
like a thick, black blanket.
Until the only thing left,
are tiny ants scurrying around
on the cold, black pavement.
Pleading for more,
gazing into the human world above,
a sky filled with hope
that the delicious bliss will be experienced again.
But soon I regret the my decision
realizing I can’t eat anything more,
and develop a queasy feeling
a mixture between butterflies fluttering in my stomach,
and finding out I failed the math exam.
Forces me to put the savory flavor of sugar aside
until next fall season,
when we swarm the houses for sweets.
