Terror
and he sees it,
something glistening
in the water far away. What is it?
How far? It doesn't matter..He stumbles off
the deserted island and into the water because
he wants what he hopes is something better than what
he has, for what he has is nothing but dates and coconuts.
Enough to stay alive but not enough to live, he has his mind set.
The salt water enters his mouth, enters his wounds, enters his eyes
its pain, real pain, but he has no regrets that can't be suppressed, for what
he sees may be what he really needs. And as he approaches the point of no return
where the distance he left behind him is too large to swim, and when he comes to realize,
with terror, he can no longer go back...
He sees the log he swam to.
