Chestnut colored toes poised me up,
Ginger shoulders swung myself around,
Dark body flew through the air,
I was light in the air-
Gentle in the air.
Flawless, I nailed it.

Her alabaster collapsed on the floor,
But she got up and smiled.
white of her teeth synchronized with her skin
In Perfect Harmony.
She stumbled, she tripped, she grunted,
But her champagne hair through it all was immaculate.
Air deemed not a fan.
She thinks: You messed up a little bit. It’s okay.

She won.

My eyes sore from studying,
Copper knuckles cramped from writing,
Mind hurt from learning.
Raw paper whined from the countless pencil marks and erases
Start Over, Not good enough.

Her stomach full of whiskey,
Breath fresh of cannabis,
Her paper whined from the loneliness of no words.
Her head was pounding.
She thinks: I cannot control myself. Why is this still happening?

She got the spot for Princeton.

My resume was long,
Embellished and stuffed to the core,
Saturated with years of blood and sweat.
Having every excruciating fact about myself-
Including my race.
If I get the job, than all these years will pay off.

Her application was null,
All she had was an interview,
No credentials, nothing.
Her golden locks and ivory skin
Did the talking.
She thinks: I would be homeless without my looks. I am nothing.

She got the job.
I am worthless.
She thinks: I am worthless

I wanted to shine a light on the fact that inner/unconscious racism not only flagrantly affects the colored victim, but also can make the innocent white a victim
