You will sail without fear of waves sinking your ship.”

Hades came to the man and made a promise:
“Worship me and you will live forever.
Death will not touch you.”
The man sat and wondered.

But the man couldn’t decide whom to worship.
The gods needed to convince the man.

Zeus arrived at the man’s village.
“I will show you the true strength of my powers.”
Zeus called the wind and blew down the man’s house.
The man sat in fear and wondered.

Poseidon arrived at the man’s village.
“The true strength of the seas will be shown.”
Poseidon beckoned waters and flooded the man’s village.
The man sat in fear and wondered.

Hades arrived at the man’s village.
“The power of the underworld will not be underestimated.”
Hades summoned hell’s fires and burned the man’s fields.
The man sat in fear and wondered.

The gods had destroyed the man’s house, land, and village.
“I cannot worship any of the gods for what they have done.”

The man took his own life to lay in peace and to wonder no more.
