Her eyes are masked by her hands
she begins the prayer that will be forever engrained into my mind
“Barukh atah Adonai,”
Her voice is so sweet
Like candy to the ears
“Eloheinu, melekh ha'olam”
There is a crashing sound in the kitchen
Lulu must’ve gotten into something
I can feel as my dad flinches beside me
Nobody dare moves otherwise
“asher kidishanu b'mitz'votav v'tzivanu”
I too am suppose to have my hands covering my eyes
Rather I watch the flickering candles that sit on the table before me
I breath out faintly and watch as the flame waves back and forth
“le hadlik ner shel Shabbat.”
We all say “Amein” in unison
