Part One

11:11
Everyday
she prays to God and
hopes that He listens
a little harder.
And for some reason,
while everyone wishes
from superstition,
she believes the time
turns her signal a little bit
stronger
and her voice a little bit
louder.

11:11
Twice a day
she shuts her eyes
and confesses her
deepest aspirations
to a God with
billions of
other people to listen to.
All for a wish,
a prayer,
that can never be
uttered.
Because the need for
someone to make her wish come true
will never conquer the need
to know her God
is listening.

Part Two

Only she knew the truth.
It was a secret she had kept between her and God.
The wooden cross she wore around her neck
everyday
no longer held any meaning for her.
It was just another tree
cut down
for human greed.
Every day,
she prayed to God
and promised to keep her desires between them.
But as she looks at
her life now, all she is sure of is that
it is no work of God.
It holds no miracles and
contains no happiness.
And slowly, it lost all its hope.
She could no longer see the beauty in the numbers
shining on her phone screen.
11:11

Bitterness is what consumed her.
She asked for the same thing
for thirty years
but all she got was
false hope and
a messy divorce.
For so long she believed that someone was listening.
When she got married, she thought
maybe
it happened.
But it wasn’t what her thirteen year old self ever wanted.
She used to have a big imagination
and a love for old romcoms.
And maybe it was childish,
but her one wish was
simple
and genuine.
Thirty years,
twice a day,
11:11.

It still
amazed her how
something that
used to be
so beautiful
could turn
so poisonous.
Maybe because of all
her hope,
she never took any
initiative or
because she refused to
confess
to anyone,
she never got
the help she deserved.
But maybe,
God wasn’t
listening and
maybe this was
her own
Hell on Earth.
But God was supposed to be
love,
and all she ever asked for was
to be part of a love story.
But right now,
standing in front of
a rope
in her empty apartment,
she knew
that it would be the last time
she would be
alone, on
11:11.
