Inhumanity
Time and time again
Those brave enough to take a stand
Are ridiculed
By those who can’t begin to comprehend
The creeping fog of oppression
That slowly rolls in
But before very long
Becomes suffocating
The chains of prejudice
Seem impossible to escape
Now that feminism has become a dirty word
And religious doctrine
Dictates who has the right
To celebrate their love
Equally
And call it a marriage
These chains are pulled tighter,
Cutting into the skin
With every hateful word
And the appalling ignorance
Of those who will never understand
The pain that they cause
Every time that they label
Someone battling depression
Insane
Some think the fight
For equal rights
Was resolved long ago,
But living in a world
In which places exist
Where women can’t drive
And black men are shot for their skin,
It is clear that the fight has just begun.
