hurricane days
weather becomes letters:
letters become weather whether I
am spinning in circles I
cannot contain the wind in my lungs it
ballooned and bundled up it
bounds from my breast in a heave
the rib cage caves to set it free.
and I’m folded over, my chest
exhales desperate breath it
leaks cyclonic winds and downpour sting
surging to feel and sinking to contain --
and unable, drowning
all admirations and the kindly.
defeated salt float drifting wondering
wandering
pondering headaches crack thunder
rumbles up under pages made of seasons;
I run to the autumn away from warm storms,
I turn to midsummer away from the freeze
but I am caught in the dampened paper rain, and
I am this storm.
and you see a silhouette leaking at her desk,
or maybe she’s spelled some words wrong.
