Shadow Dreams
Young hearts beat
and
Young souls desire
What happens to
Squandered dreams?
Do they give way to dust
and cob webs consume?
Or shrivel and wrinkle
destroyed by the sun?
Do dreams once vivid
colors extraordinaire,
Fall from the heavens
the grey side of the storm?
Maybe they dry
and combust into flames
Perhaps dreams are the salt
Left behind on the shore
I too had a dream
Once within me so bright
But where did it go?
Off to Neverland’s purgatory?
I, do not know
Just a shadow of what
once illuminated me
I’ve forgotten,
and squandered
My young heart’s desire
