A blank canvas
A clean slate
That’s how we all start

Maybe we’re given our paint and brushes
Maybe we’re given a selection to choose from
An array of colors and textures on a wall

We’re all artists
Painting our story
On a canvas called existence.

Some art is so realistic
It looks like a photograph
Not paints on a board

Some art is splattered
Vivid colors with no meaning
But entertainment to the eyes.

Some art is blurry
You can see the picture
But only if you squint

Some artists use thick paints
So when you look at the canvas edge
You see bumps and roughness

Some art is dark
Look carefully to see the figures
Among the shaded lines

Some art is modern
A new arrangement of shapes
You can’t quite understand

Some artists take photographs
To frame and call art
It’s just as beautiful you know

But no lives are picture perfect
There’s always a hidden smear
One line too many or one too few
