Her innocent eyes peer up
at me as I stroke her silky fur.
She purrs, collapses,
and flips over to show me her white
belly, splashed with a patch of coal.
Her onyx ears perk up,
someone is in another room.
Her oil-dipped tail curls
at the end as she leaps
down from her perch to find Mom.
I’m left alone
with a lap of cat hair.
