the car won’t start key
won’t turn gas pedal
torn, what to do when
you’re stuck
in a waiting room plastic
chairs lights too
Bright, people come
and go, how to smile
when you have the news,
when the xray screams
and you are broken how
to stand at midnight in
worn out shoes and
something to lose but
nothing to burn,
flames higher and higher,
heat rises bonfire
crackles roasted marshmallows and
branches that are dead
no more time just
keep running one
foot in front of the other.
