Where I Am From
I am from humid pool days at daycare
4 days a week.
I am from “you are my sunshine” in morning
to “stop fighting with your sister” at nights,
I am from talks over the phone
and FaceTime.
I am from waking up to school in the morning,
to going on a writer’s workshop field trip.
I am from coming home to the chlorine smelling house
with neon colored clothes covering the bedroom floor.
I am from my silky green blanket on my pillow
to the smell of sweet cookies in the air.
I am from running for weeks
to hurdling in the junior olympics.
I am from no phones at the table and no phones in class
going to no phones at practice.
I am from the moments captured in pictures
and time unable to wear them out.
