Topping my head,
A mop of red string,
Red as the afro of Raggedy Ann,
Wreaking revenge on all those little black snakes that snap in my hair.

Just because I’ve got red hair,
Doesn’t mean that I’m pale as a ghost,
I may not be tan,
But I’m tanner than most.

Just because I’ve got red hair,
Doesn’t mean I wear it in two braids,
And break black slates over the heads,
Of my rudimentary classmates.

Just because I’ve got red hair,
Doesn’t mean I live by myself,
With a horse and a monkey,
And hair that refuses to obey the laws of gravity.

Just because I’ve got red hair,
Doesn’t mean that I’m going extinct,
I’m not going to die out,
You’ll see me again.

Just because I’ve got red hair,
Doesn’t mean that you’ve got to set me up,
With a nice red-head guy,
Because we’re so ‘cute together’.

Just because I’ve got red hair,
Doesn’t mean that I’ve got a temper,
But trust me, it’s there,
When you call me a ‘angry redhead’.

Just because I’ve got red hair,
Doesn’t mean you’ve got to pull it,
Or touch it when it’s curled,
Or compare it to your red shirts, it’s simply not fair.

Just because I’ve got red hair,
Doesn’t mean that I’m cursed,
I promise I’m not a vampire,
Or a werewolf upon death.

I’m not a magical unicorn,
You don’t got to stare,
You simply never notice me,
But I’m always there.

Just because I’ve got red hair,
Doesn’t mean you’ve got to treat me,
As though I’m different from the pack,
As though there’s something wrong with the way I act.

If I’m acting a little strange,
It’s not because of the hair upon my head,
It’s because of the way you stare at me,
That makes me seem a little deranged.

When you ask to touch my hair,
It rubs me the wrong way,
When you tell me never to dye it,
It makes me want to do it more.

Just treat me like I’m equal,
The very same as you,
And maybe when you smile at me,
I’ll smile back too.

Because I’ll know that,
You’re not noticing me because of my hair,
Rather who I am as a person,
A friend worth talking to.
