If you only knew how little I know about the things that really matter.

Tell me a story
A story about a little girl
Her face turns red
Like the wind picking up and leaves flashing white before a storm
Scrunching up like a pug’s face
she opens her mouth wide

Tell me a story
A story about a young woman
She takes a deep breath
As if to hold it underwater
Trying to take good things from the air
But the corners of her mouth droop down as she exhales
her eyes darken

Tell me a story
A story about a lone drop
Water, H2O
Salty and tangy
It finds its way down a plump cheek
Rolls fast and hot

Tell me a story
A story about a river
It is strong, it is relentless
It is rolling

Tell me a story
A story about train tracks
Tracks
Tracks of the tear meandering down a thin cheekbone
slow and steady
slow and steady

Tell me a story about a drop
A dropoff of the land
Where water flows, water falls
Coming to the edge

Coming to the edge

Tell me

The tear falls
Over the waterfall
The tear falls

Tell me a story about the bottom of the ocean

It is cold
So cold
