The Little Things
  just
  the other day
  you called
  to say
  No
  cracked pavement
  chipped wall
  sound
  of shattering
  glass or
  dreams my very own
  you
  said that
  it-never-would-have-worked
  anyway
  paint
  being peeled
  on the inside underneath
  leaves
  laying bare
  their little tummies
  raw
  oozing under
  scorching sun
  That
  is how it feels
  i say
  but you
  do not hear
  me
  if
  this was a movie
  Hollywood irony
  damsel-in-distress
  and
  a crap-load of pity
  then
  it would be raining
  on set
  and the director
  would call
  cut
  just
  the other day
  you
  called to say
  No
  and now
  i am
  starting
  to notice
  the little things
  like
  the maze of lines
  in the bricks set
  around the fireplace
  or
  how the water
  droplets no longer
  fall
  from the tap when
  i turn it off
  but
  quiver against gravity
  instead
  or
  even the smallest
  normally-unseen
  sliver of silver
  light that falls
  away
  from the gap
  in the curtains
  time passes
  mountains fall
  civilizations crumble
  and
  in that time
  just think-
  how many
  thousands of snails
  crossed
  a sidewalk
  for
  now i know
  in the end
  it is
  the little things
  that matter
  most
