Quite a keeper
She was quite a keeper
With the delicate, yet untainted smile
Looking at me, while all I could look at
Was the thousand of stars in her immaculate eyes
Her scents penetrated the fog
The arms hugged me, with so much warmth
That even the wild kid stopped wondering,
And whispered into my ears:
All roads lead home —
I saw a dream up high, floating
In the distant sky
A big, tall countryman was walking
Through the cornfields, a bunch of flowers
In his left hand
There were hundreds, and hundreds of words
Spinning in his head; he could not figure out any
Except the flapping of the blue bird
In his big, soft heart
She was quite a keeper
The one and only
Tomato soups, Australian countryside
Folk music, old accordions —
She was quite a keeper
A glimpse of an eternal autumn day
Too fine to be kept
By a man like me
