The Roots
Once upon a time
In a city far away
There played a little girl
On a very rainy day
Her hair clung to her head
And her clothes were soaking wet
But little did she care
As she walked her constant pet
The pet was black as shadow
A monster more, in truth
The girl seemed not to notice
The blood upon its tooth
She loved that beast forever
It was always by her side
It whispered lies into her ear
That made her want to die
She didn’t see deception
She didn’t see the light
Until one day she woke up
And found herself in night
She was scared of where she was
As in her eyes formed tears
She wanted to turn on the light
And banish all her fears
When finally she opened up
Sought badly-needed help
She was met with love and hope
Her pain was finally felt
They gave her back her life control
They showed her how to smile
They told her it would be alright
If she could wait a while
She talked to many people
And everyone she met
Gave her the help she needed
To send away her pet
After a long, long journey
She finally felt free
But always lurked the monster
The roots beneath her tree
