The Road Goes On
I step outside my door
Unprepared for the adventure in store
And the road goes on
I tremble and quake
Under your words ‘What a mistake’
But the road goes on
I smile with relief and give great cheer
Yet hurt reigns under your scowl and sneer
So the road goes on
Each malicious word is a dagger to the heart
So I heed your words and try to depart
Yet the road goes on
With home ahead and fire in the distance
My heart warms with your acceptance
And the road goes on
While scorched and burned
I break when on me your back is turned
And yet the road goes on
Night falls as you say 'Good-bye'
I become hollow as the light leaves your eyes
How does the road go on
My brother, how I mourn for you
Yet what can I do
When the road goes on
Here I smile even in death
For you I see with my final breath
And the road goes ever on
