Where I'm From
I am from hiking up the mountains.
Where are we going?
Nowhere.
Yelling at my family the trail was not a loop,
nobody believing the little girl with laryngitis.
Asking, “What would Randy do?”
After wading through twelve rivers, we turned around.
It was not a loop.
I am from the cabin on Spider Lake.
Who will sit out the first round?
No one.
Four square turns into twelve.
Bike rides to get ice cream,
five people on a two person tube.
At the end of the day, we talked around the fire.
It was a good day.
I am from the glass doors in Florida.
Who runs into these doors?
Everyone.
Grandma cleaned the doors.
Dad, beer in hand, hit the door but he “didn’t spill a drop!”
Grandma smashed into it with dinner in her hands.
A charm goes on the door, to tell if it is closed.
It doesn’t happen anymore.
I am from curly hair in pigtails.
Where will I go?
Everywhere.
I stick my “nose high in the air”, when things don’t go my way.
In my high chair, no juice only milk.
Looking out for my sibling who don’t know proper manipulation.
I am a particularly stubborn person.
It is still a problem.
I am from the hearts of friends and family.
Where will we go?
Anywhere.
Eating mint explosion ice cream by the pint,
making popcorn to watch a family movie,
squishing into a car for hours.
The best parts of my day, with them.
It is a wonderful life.
