What Made Me
I am from summers
by the rigid cabin.
From crunching of leaves
as I pass through the thick trees.
The barking of goldens,
as they splash into Franklin Lake.
I am from fear of the dark abyss,
with unknown creatures lurking.
From bravery
and diving in the murky water.
Breathing in gasoline from the engine,
conquering my fears as I yell “HIT IT.”
I am from sweat.
From questioning why I do this,
then having the reward of finishing.
The worn down shoes,
and a beep ringing off when I accomplish one mile.
I am from my mother's words:
“Don’t dislike anyone
unless they give you a reason not to.”
From doing what’s right,
and practicing lessons learned on Sundays.
Unconditional love from family and friends
is where I come from.
