Freedom

Like rainfall

Deafening

Disruptive

Liberating

Cold and wet to the free

As they cower beneath an umbrella

Novel and quenching to the people in chains

Dancing beneath fateless droplets

Freedom

Like sunshine

Bright

Unforgiving

Resolute

Sweat builds and grows wrinkles

As skin grows sick with sun

The faded sigh

Their body alighting beneath the gaze

Of the holy heat

Freedom

Like the first snow

Quiet

Unassuming

Momentous

Clogs the driveway of the small minded

Their shovels groaning against

The substantial snow

To the dreamers, it

Makes way for snow angels

Bold against the barren canvas

Freedom

Like the shouts of the people

Crowding

Marching

Demanding

Freedom

Like the partition of the seas

Singing

Dancing

Praying

Freedom

Like the seder table

Questioning

Re-living

Reclining

And free

The author's comments:

This poem was inspired by the idea that freedom is subjective, it can be different things to different people. Freedom can also be obtrusive at first, but necessary.

It is an ode to freedom, inspired by the Jewish holiday celebrating freedom: Passover.
