January 10th
The date we agreed upon
A long month ago

An anxious delay
Rumination, no verdict
The sofa summons

A quivering lip
A sinking heart, admittance
Her bravest tear falls

My own soon follow
We soak in sorrow, in love
Futile, we hold tightly

Emotion fills us
I cling to hope and relief
Promises assuage

Hollow, stripped, broken
Affection, convincing lies
The clock is frozen

Moist cheeks press in grief
I’ll never find another
I lay blessed and robbed

A long, final kiss
So momentous and serene
But healing nothing
