Adolescence
This black nail polish
 coats split, rigid thumbnails
 that plead for mercy

 A comb whimpers while
 his fingers interweave with
 her flexuous locks

 And doors slam before
 blaring music resonates
 across the floorboards

 Forget about your
 feelings, and dazzle those friends
 of yours with a joint

 How did we get here
 when just months ago
 we knew compliance?

 We’re just some young teens
 who don’t know that rebellion
 could mean real danger
