Gray.
Beep beep beep beep beep.
The truck’s still backing up so
I cover my two eyes.
Oh, how I wish this
will be my last sleepless night
in my accursed
old bedroom, dusty
and vacant in the middle
of a utopia
designed for color. I
do not belong here, I crave
a reprieve from the
light of humankind.
But do I get it? Never.
For that is my fate
to forever shut
my lids from the cruel vibrance
of a sprawling life.
Think about my world,
I whisper, a world of gray,
just gray, gray and me.
So keep on honking,
garbage truck, while I attempt
to lull back my dreams.
