You didn't make the cut,

You're not quite good enough,

Take a bow to hide your tears.

The author's comments:

This poem was written as I sat in the bleachers after my track coaches announced who had been picked to run at Varsity Conference. I had run varsity most of the season, but injuries kept me from improving my times as we neared championship time. I understood why I hadn't made the Conference cut, but I was crushed. I like this poem because the second person point of view reaches out to the reader and makes it more personal. I think everyone can relate to the feeling of not making the cut.
