Lady Summer
Dearest fair Summer
Why do you fade away?
Once, you were so wonderful
But now, you’re lost in the fall array
So long to the delicate daisies
And to the asters, farewell
Warmth and love and light and joy
Lost in time’s evil
The gentle laughter of the sun
Gone to all who look
Instead Lady Autumn has come for her
Your seat, Summer, she took
We don’t want Autumn
Bringing her bright gowns of gold
And though she dresses the trees in royal attire
Summer we’d rather behold
For she brings the cooler air with her
And lfreedom for the young lost
And in her windblown locks of scarlet
Us she has forgot!
But you, dear Summer, we trust
To uphold our waning way
For you are the one from out of our hearts
And today is your day
So smile upon us, Lady
And don’t forget the warmth of thine
For soon you’ll stray to another place
And will be lost in time
Nay, nay, nay again!
Riot against Lady Fall
Down with Autumn and her chains
We love Summer best of all
Autumn gives way to King Winter
Who rules us with a heart of ice
He covers us in fiery snow
And is anything but nice
He freezes our spirits that love you so
And fights us ever with frost
Lady Summer, don’t leave us here alone
Or he will be our lofty host
Lady Summer, we adore thee far too much
Do not stray away
Grant us your bidding and keep us close
And make forever your way and day
