I moved through over a decade
Of ceaseless, senseless masquerade
So successful was my charade
No friend ever saw through my façade

I have contrived a mask
That is derived from fear
A curtain of obscurities
Hiding all my insecurities

I peek out a self-imposed cage
A gap like a rip on a page
She reaches in and rips it wide
She slips in and sits at my side

The dull shine of short blond hair
A smile full of metal and care
The curtain falls just a little bit wider
The iceberg bobs just a little bit higher
