chasing tails
chasing tails
we took a plane into maine
but it was nowhere near the same
we threw knives at a tree
but all it did was bring back repressed memories
we can't win, we can't loose
forever trapped in a replaying commute
we can pretend
that we see the end
we see no oceans or jet planes or speedways
no rock bottoms or bill boards or freight trains
no hipsters or addicts or dead weights
no rappers or pop stars or soulmates
[chorus:
I took a walk last november
to try and find a straight line
but the world came off crooked
and it left the world left me behind
I was at a wedding in October
it felt like November with the wind in the sky
a paper plane with a message flew out the side car
of a passing motorbike
it was then i realized
that nothing was holding me back
no spirit or mountain or lover or map]
it was deep in november
when we took a walk in the woods
the music was electronic
and the beats were sold like goods
but on the distant plain
memories rushed by and stopped,
they waited and watched us
until they left for the rock
and we chased the spectral tails
of a thousand roving souls
and we ran them down until something told us to stop
and we used nets to drag them home
to where they refused to go
and the paper plane watched us and waited
for its chance to fly down below
[chorus:
Walk with me this november
we can try and find a straight line
the world will come off crooked
and it will leave us behind
We were at a wedding in October
it felt like July with the sun in the sky
a paper plane with a message flew out the side car
of a passing motorbike
it was then we realized
that something was holding us back
just spirits and mountains and lovers and maps]
my soul screams pop stars and air planes
and it remembers love that didn't last
your soul screams monsoons and earth quakes
and it refuses to acknowlege the past
our spectral bodies are screaming
"you have ignored us for too long!"
and we reply with hateful laughter
and sing them a 5 minute pop song
[chorus:
We were at a wedding in October
it felt like July with the sun in the sky
a paper plane flew out the side car
of a passing motorbike
it was then we realized
that something was holding us back;
just spirits and mountains and lovers and maps
and we both took a ride
and we found ourselves on a mountain
hanging off a cliff, being demolished from all fourteen thousand sides]

Show them who, what, when, where, and how. But most importantly, show them WHY, because every great story has a WHY.
