All my life I've looked at words as if I were seeing them for the first time. ~Ernest Hemingway

I’m still young.

I’m still beautiful.

I’m still holding my tongue.

I’m still wonderful.

I’m still that little brown eyed girl.

Who thought Barbie would rule the world.

I’m still that girl who thought Santa Claus was real.

And who didn’t know that hearts didn’t always heal.

I’m still that symbol of innocence,

Believing in love and no consequence.

I’m still the one who watches the sunset,

Knowing that my time isn’t here yet.

I’m still the one who is just learning to read,

Slowly and steadily building up my speed.

I’m still that girl with the toothy smile,

The one who only wanted to watch Barney for a while.

I’m still that girl with the wispy brown hair,

Throwing everything to the wind, finding no reason to care.

I’m still that girl who falls when she runs,

Getting back up, because falling is fun.

I’m still that girl who believes in Mr. Walt Disney,

Knowing that Prince Charming is waiting for me.

I’m still that girl who believes in stars,

Wishing on one, watching as it glows from afar.

I’m still that girl, the one with the bubbly laugh,

Believing life is better when you take a nice nap.

I’m still that girl who believes in red roses,

Pretty scents and wrinkling noses.

I’m still the girl who believes in sweet justice,

Making the end a perfect bliss.

I’m still that girl who knows she is particular,

Believing in being me and not being popular.

I’m still that girl who believes in herself.

Following her and no one else.

I’m still that girl who still believes in life,

And her shining armored knight.

I’m still that girl who believes in integrity,

Knowing no one can damage me.

I’m still one two three four five six seven eight nine,

I’m still believing in time.

I’m still young,

I’m still not done.

You are still the most precious 14-year-old I know with the world at her feet. Keep writing and believing in what lies ahead and you will still be a great inspiration for your peers and your elders!

Thank you! Yeah, this has a funky melody. I don't play any musical instrument, I just like to think of a random tune sometimes to accompany a poem. Thanks again!

This is a wonderful poem! Thanks for commenting on mine so that I could read yours! This poem speaks to me in so many ways. I am this girl, and reading your poem felt like reading a part of me out loud. The rhyme scheme works really well too! On a side note, I'm really impressed that you've written a novel! I really hope that you do get it published. Keep writing, and don't grow up too soon!

I love this. Its innocence and almost naive way of looking at the world, puts me in a time warp when I read it. I feel like I am in kindergarden again, in a fantastically brilliant way.
