Midnight
Get up, get dressed, put on your best dress,
because tonight anything goes.
Your make-up's perfect, your hair's pressed,
Your shoes show off your pretty pink toes.
You've waited for this night forever
and now the time is here
Never thought you'd ever be this clever,
but now your choking down tears.
He was waiting for you at your front door, baby
Let your guard down just for tonight, oh maybe
He'll be different, and you won't have to worry...
Telling him just for tonight, please save me,
Maybe just for tonight you'll be free,
And you won't have to worry, no you won't have to worry...
He was everything you thought he'd be,
Handsome and romantic and nice to all your friends,
Step out of the car and they'll see,
You'll be happy, just at least till the night ends, at least till the night ends.
But now it's five minutes to midnight,
Everything's gonna be alright,
Because you've taken a risk, turned it into pure bliss,
Hurry up, love, it's five minutes to midnight,
She has to be home soon tonight,
Can't be out much later, you have to get her home.
He was cool with your curfew at first, but now he's not,
You're sitting there scared, telling him you have to leave,
He's drinking a lot, his temperature's hot,
You knew better than to wear your heart on your sleeve.
But he was waiting for you at your front door, baby
Shouldn't of let your guard down tonight, oh maybe
You'll be okay, and you won't have to worry...
Telling him you need to leave, please take me,
Home, but he smiles, his face is full of glee,
Saying you won't have to worry, no you won't have to worry...
But now it's five minutes to midnight,
Everything's gonna be alright,
Because you've taken a risk, turned it into pure bliss,
Hurry up, love, it's five minutes to midnight,
She has to be home soon tonight,
Can't be out much later, you have to get her home.
You can't take it any longer, have to get yourself out,
You call a cab, and you struggle from his grasp,
He tries to pull you back, starts to pout,
You pull away with one last gasp.
You run down the stairs, tears falling down your cheeks,
Drop your heart as you flee,
You're running too fast to hear him as he speaks,
Finally make it home at a quarter to three.
It was five minutes to midnight,
Everything turned out alright,
Because you took a big risk, even got your first kiss,
But it wasn't love, it was five minutes to midnight,
You got home way too late that night,
But you snuck back in, lay down with a grin,
He was waiting for you at your front door, baby
Shouldn't of let your guard down tonight, oh maybe
You'll be okay, and you won't have to worry...
Saying you'll be okay and you won't have to worry, no you won't have to worry...
