You make lists of people you hate
While I prefer to sit on the curb and wait
For the bus that never comes
You like to love and love to let down
And I just turn away and frown
As my nervous system goes numb

You may like to hide in the shadows
But darling
I'd rather dance in the sun

You say that no one's worth your time
I ignore you; I think I'm going blind
'Cause there's nothing left to see
You slip into a darkened state
As I twiddle the thumbs of fate
And drifting farther, I am free

You may like to sit in the corner
But darling
I'd rather sing in the rain

You say that love's officially dead
I say something's messed with your head
And, too tired, I just sigh
You promise me that you'll never forget
I crack a smile: "There's hope for you yet."
And I wave a final goodbye

You may like to hide in the shadows
But darling
I'd rather dance in the sun
