Setting out on this narrow way
Adding more pain to a cache
Walking alone on a sinuous lane
Staring down faces that give you disdain
No ready to fight what’s up ahead
With one misstep
You know you’ll be dead

And wherever I go is another fight
I’m ready to take this life tonight

With every step I get more blind
Searching for words that I can’t find
And every step takes me further back
As I think of all the strength I lack
With all the wrongs I can’t make right
Maybe it’s not worth the fight

Longing for meaning in despair
Words getting lost in simple prayer
No one nearby and I can’t hear a sound
Don’t know if I even want to be found
My hands are shaking; the pain is real
When it feels my broken heart can’t heal

Everywhere around me is a battlefield
I’m about to cast aside my shield

With every step I get more blind
Searching for words that I can’t find
And every step takes me further back
As I think of all the strength I lack
With all the wrongs I can’t make right
Maybe it’s not worth the fight

And all the people I’ve betrayed
Would never come back to my aid
I’m all alone, my time is now
With one last breath, I know, somehow
The glory days are all but gone
As the beginning of my blood is drawn
And maybe someday they’ll all see
What they can do to someone like me

With my last step, can’t see again
Not to be missed, but hated instead
And this last step is all I can take
As I see that what I thought was fake
All the wrongs I couldn’t make right
It was never really worth the fight
It was never worth the fight
