Jesse Told Me
Jesse told me, if you color in the lines
Then you only color lies
And that’s no fun
Jesse told me to just draw it alone
Then I know that it’s my own
But Jesse’s gone
Jesse told me, if you plant the corn in rows
Then you know how it’ll grow
And that’s no fun
Jesse held me as I scooped up all the seeds
Let them fall upon the breeze
But Jesse’s gone
Jesse told me, if you dress like all the rest
Then you always look your best
And that’s no fun
Jesse laughed as we sat there in the dirt
Said this is how we know our worth
But Jesse’s gone
Jesse told me to look up at the stars
“They may not know who you are,
But you know them”
Jesse whispered, when the birds have all gone south
To still catch snowflakes in my mouth
When he’s gone
Oh, how I miss you Jesse
Wait for you to come and get me
There’s no snow, and the birds aren’t home
Tell myself when I see green grass
Maybe then that breeze will bring you back
Bring you back home
But no,
Oh, cause Jesse’s gone
