Inside-Out Girl
Does anyone know of the Inside-Out Girl?
I'm pretty sure I do.
And if anyone listening knows me at all,
I think that they might know her, too.
Gets scornful of those who can't make their own fun,
Even though she's got trouble there, too.
Lists a million ways that she could pass the time,
But still ends up lonely and blue.
Forgets school in a day, but she still remembers
Details from talks she had months before.
Resentful of the spotlight when it lands upon others...
Until she gets it, and wants to be ignored.
CHORUS:
And here is a girl who is strong in her mind,
For it's there that she knows who she is.
But also, when alone, just her and her thoughts,
That's when the wondering begins.
I know who I am, but how much of that's shaped
By the rest of the world's wishes?
Says crowds are her thing until she joins one -
And then she just finds herself bored.
But when it's her and just one friend or two,
She wishes that there were more.
Look at this girl, she longs for love -
The love of every story she's told.
But she shrinks away, becomes terrified...
Whenever her own romances unfold.
CHORUS:
And here is a girl who is strong in her mind,
For it's there that she knows who she is.
But also, when alone, just her and her thoughts,
That's when the wondering begins.
I know who I am, but how much of that's shaped
By the rest of the world's wishes?
Does anyone know of the Inside-Out Girl?
I think, if you look hard, you'll see
'Cause if anyone listening knows me at all,
They'll realize that that girl is me.
